Complete vessel charter from Derince to Mombasa (Kenya) for final delivery to Juba (Southern Sudan)
Smart Logistics was awarded the contract to perform the transport of a total of 200,000 freight tons during 2011 and 2012 from Derince in Turkey to Juba in Southern Sudan. The cargo was for a road project financed by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
The scope of service was included full vessel charters of rolling and static cargo. Delivery of cargo was organized from various sources including Turkey, France, Norway, Japan and Korea. Shipments were arranged out of Derince and Mersin either on direct delivery or full RoRo vessel charters or in transit via Tilbury. Direct sailings out of Turkey became difficult in the summer time of 2011 due to piracy attacks off the Somalian coast. To ensure safe deliveries, an alternative route was found going south to Madagascar through the Indian Ocean for discharging in Mombasa (Kenya). Discharge of the vessel in Mombasa was performed under own supervision in cooperation with our agents in East Africa.
All cargo was reloaded onto long term rented low-bed trailers and the cargo was transported overland about 1300 km in transit via Uganda and Sudan to the final Destination in Nimule Juba, Southern Sudan.
Apart from the vessel loads we have arranged also regular airfreight shipments of urgently required spare parts to Entebbe (Uganda).
